This position will help SUSE deliver a secure and tailored OS for the Automotive sector. Your work will empower cars to do more than what they do today. Improving the reliability and security of mobile solutions will be part of your role. We are looking for a software engineer that has a good understanding of Linux distributions. The ideal candidates have already developed software for Linux in past experiences. They understand the structure of a Linux system and the mechanisms behind package maintenance. In this role, you will interact with Project Managers, Product Managers, Quality Assurance, technical architects, and other experts. Your task will be to master the processes by which software is built and delivered in an enterprise-ready Linux distribution. You will act on errors showing up in our staging area, identifying problems, and fixing them. You will also contribute to upstream communities to enhance and extend software projects. Responsibilities: -Collaborate with developers, customers, and users to drive the future of our code base -Contribute to upstream project communities, influencing design and implementation decisions -Design and implement new features and fix bugs in upstream or downstream projects -Track package updates, bug fixes and bring them in when required, managing RPM-based packages for our distributions Education and Experience Required: -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent. Knowledge and Skills: -At least 2 years of experience in software development -Proficiency in Python, Bash, C/C++, or similar programming language -Good understanding of at least one Linux distribution -Good Linux debugging skills -Experience with package maintenance for any Linux distribution -Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written Nice to have: -Experience building a Linux distribution -Experience with RPM package format -Experience with Open Build System, Koji or Yocto -Hands-on experience with openSUSE or SUSE Enterprise Linux -Experience in the Automotive sector -Experience delivering projects that target "functional safety" -Broader hands-on experience in packaging software for Linux systems SUSE is a global leader in innovative, reliable and enterprise-grade open source solutions, relied upon by more than 60% of the Fortune 500 to power their mission-critical workloads.
